New Site - Search Engine Placement - ArtisanCustomFraming.com

Artisan Custom Framing wanted to show up on google - most web companies would be up for the challenge, and we were successful.  The next step is to widen the reach of the site so we'll be coaching on social networking and other $free forms of online advertising.  This is a great example of a REALLY good business that deserves online traffic to get to their site, and we have been struggling to improve the traffic numbers.

Here are some steps you might take in a similar situation:

  1. Start a blog and show of recent High End framing jobs - these are REALLY cool

New SOBI template - Store Locator

This is going to be a hit!  We added a twitter widget to the detail view, and small maps and store hours to the v-card view.  We are going to implement a version of this for a pizza franchise customer of ours to list all their stores,

A good list - top 50 joomla apps to install

http://www.waterandstone.com/open-source-cms-resources/articles/50-top-joomla-extensions

I'm re-posting this from another site, who compiled it from a book mostly

With more than 4,000 Extensions in the Joomla! Extensions Directory, one of the most daunting aspects of selecting a Joomla! Extension is finding the right tool for the job. With thousands of Extensions to choose from, you are sometimes faced with multiple options that appear to achieve your goals. While there really is no subsitute for downloading things and trying them out yourself, in this article I provide a list of fifty Joomla! Extensions as a starting point for addressing common needs.

This article is excerpted from Ric Shreves' upcoming title, the Joomla! Bible, from Wiley & Sons. That book is due for publication in early November and can be pre-ordered directly from the publisher at www.wiley.com. Watch this site across the coming months as we preview more from this new title. This article orignally appeared on the author's site, RicShreves.net.

New customer website launched - parnitascatering.com

Parnita's Catering Inc came to us for their first web presence, they wanted something that was eye catching and would help to drive business.  We put them in our basic website package,

Website shape - time to go widescreen!

It used to be that you made your site for 800x600 because that is what everybody had, it was the most common.  Then we crept into 1024x768 range, the 15" and half of the 17" LCD's out there usually fall into that category.. that was in like 2001.  Now, 99% of the screens being sold (and same for recent history) are all widescreen, 16:10 ratios, 1440x900,

New SOBI template - Menu List (catering, restaurant, etc)

We built another SOBI template, this one is for a catering company or restaurant.  There are other components out there for a menu, but this is SOO flexible we thought it HAS to be done.  You can see it live here:

As for the fields it uses:  field_description, title, and field_price

Go check out the SOBI page - http://webeddy.com/community/sobi-templates

New SOBI template - Staff List

We made this for Omega-Financial.com/our-staff and are releasing it to the community so everyone can use it. This SOBI template makes a really easy/nice looking method of displaying your team, photos, and their bio without doing any formatting of your own.  If you need any help setting it up just check the support forum, we'll post instructions there.

HOWTO: Social Media Marketing, and our Joomla websites

Lots of places are clamoring to get into the "Social Media Revolution" and start monetizing the frenzy.  This is creating a lot of fun social media content, and a lot of creative thinking.  This really reminds me of the dotcom bubble in 1999.  We had new websites popping up every day that seemed to give away crazy things for free, or serve some crazy function that was not even possible to monetize.

Now this is happening with Social Media.  Everyone and their dog has a facebook/twitter account and are trying to get you to buy things from them.  Lets go over the very basics of what should be on the social networks, how to automate the act of getting it there,

Kill-IE6 Campaign gaining traction, Google ramping up

If you hadn't noticed, lots of websites all over the internet are PUSHING to get people to upgrade their old web browser to something a little more current.  IE6 launched in like 1986 and just hangs on "like an illness that won't go away" (quote from ie6update.com).  We are using many templates that by default don't work right in IE6, and have a warning telling users this fact when they first get to the site.  A news story just broke from Google's Enterprise Blog that they are going to stop IE6 support for even more of their apps in March 2010.  This is REALLY good news for us,

HOWTO - Create an article and link it on your main menu

This is a short video that we'll be permanently placing over on http://joomla.webeddy.com - but for now you can watch it right here!  Check it out, you can add a menu item in about 10 seconds after this short clip.

http://twitter.com/webeddy and facebook is coming next - watch out for even more freebies coming on these sites.  We like to keep things exciting.

10 Stupidest Administrator Tricks

About this list - I copied this from the Joomla docs site. It's very, very, very, true to life

This list originally appeared late one night on the Joomla Forums after one developer ended a particularly long round of crack recovery. The post struck many a nerve among Joomlaists far and wide, and has been translated into several languages. Some nerves were near the funny bone, others painfully far from it. Your experience may vary.

What is Joomla? and Why should I use it?

Here's how it's described on the Joomla! official site at http://www.joomla.org/about-joomla.html  ( I highly suggest you read this one page article.)

What is Joomla?

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

I think a visit to joomla.org will answer most of your questions, there are a few questions that people ask that won't be covered there.
